The Lincoln Street School Visual Arts Program is a fine arts program with an emphasis on art history. A holistic approach to learning is employed, honoring multiple intelligences and varied learning styles. Students are submerged in the stories that surround the art - in the hopes that they will come to understand the importance of historical context.
The program is organized around the elements of art and the principles of design: grade 3 focus is the elements and grade 4 focus is the principles. Grade 5 focuses on higher level thinking skills, thus synthesizing both the elements of art & the principles of design to explore more complex and conceptual ideas.
This is a process-based program that exposes students to printmaking, painting, drawing, sculpture, photography & collage. Each lesson begins in a sketch journal - where students can both write & draw about their initial ideas before going on to the final piece. They experience the full cycle of the creative process from the beginning thought to the completed art work.

I am a teaching artist from New Hampshire. My media of choice is found object sculpture and my greatest inspiration is the natural world. My life is filled with creative endeavors - writing, constructing, drawing, photographing, gardening, teaching.
Working with children is one of the most amazing parts of my life. They always make me laugh & I learn from them everyday. The climate in the art room is one of curiosity and exploration; activity and discussion; seeing and doing.
This site is a work-in-progress. Every time I teach a lesson I will be adding reflections and feedback. New ideas continually enter my mind and as they do I will be crafting them into new lessons and exercises. Welcome.
